During my coop at Harvard Bioscience I worked under head engineers to research and choose a new display supplier that would replace outdated screens used in multiple product lines. I then created model files for the new screen and designed a new alignment fixture. modifying the old chassis model and assembly files to bring them up to date
New Screen Fixture and Assembly Modifications
This alignment fixture was required to attach the electronics to the back of the screen. The most notable design challenge were the 4 alignment rods that were being used to slide the board on top of the display. I used GD&T to align the holes along a DRF, and set tolerances for the hole sizing to account for errors when 3D printing the parts.
This chassis assembly was modified to have a new screen cutout, including new wiring cutouts at the bottom and a new overlay cutout. Since the screen does not have even bezels along all sides, calculations were done to ensure that the center of the screen aligned with the center of the chassis. The hardest part when working on this model was modifying the mates that each part had, especially since a lot of dimensions were being modified and new mates and constraints needed to be created without completely breaking the other mates that let the model build in SolidWorks.
